IN DEVELOPMENT WITH LAHWN/LEEDS CREATIVE AGEING FORUM AND LEEDS PLAYHOUSE

Inspired by The Baring Foundation and Small Things Creative Projects, who have developed two national treasuries of arts activities for older people, we are aiming to develop a Leeds-based treasury that acts as a practical guide for anybody who supports older people. It will explore the ways to take a creative approach and use the arts in your work in a simple, accessible style with tips and suggestions alongside a wide range of activities / exercises across art forms and suggestions on how to develop.

We welcome creative exercises that have been tried, tested and enjoyed:

  • by older people in Leeds or

  • by people in caring roles

As part of this we will invite people to submit an exercise or activity to be included using a “recipe” type format that encourages readers to try the activity themselves.

Activities can focus on a single art form or may tap into a range of different ones, and should be low cost or free to run.

If you were interested in suggesting an activity we would ask you to send the following in the first instance:

  • A brief paragraph outlining the activity / exercise

  • An idea of how long the activity took to run – 10 minutes? A day? A week?

  • Materials needed

  • Suitability eg dementia friendly, large groups, individuals…etc…

  • Context eg care homes, online

  • Atmosphere eg relaxing, energetic, focus

Please look at the example further down or the 2019 and 2021 editions of the Treasury for ideas. If your activity is chosen you will then be asked to provide step by step instructions for running the activity, and a high resolution photo to support it which has consent for use.

In addition to all of this – if you are working with anybody else that you feel may be interested in making a submission please feel free to forward this information to them.

We also welcome contact from anyone who would like to be involved in planning, developing and sharing this project with a view to launching our own Treasury in September 2022.
